The Minecraft Documentary

December 18th, 2012

I’m really looking forward to seeing this film. It premieres on December 22nd on Xbox Live and will be available on demand after.

Where were you when you first heard about Minecraft? I was reading a gaming site and saw an article about an indie game making $200K in one weekend. I originally laughed at the low-res appearance of the game but decided to give it a try. I bought the alpha version. I was heavily hooked for at least 6 months after that and still play some today. I also got to introduce a lot of others to the experience, some of those people are still playing every chance they get.

Minecraft has become a permanent part of gaming culture.

ATI / AMD video card driver for Windows 8

November 28th, 2012

This is just a post to help others that had the same problem I did. Windows 8 does not include Open GL (which AMD calls Open CL) support on older ATI Radeon cards like the HD 2000, 3000, and 4000 series.  So after a bunch of hunting around, I found the drivers that do work, so you can keep on playing games that need it, most notably – Minecraft. The file is considered a “hot-fix” from AMD so it wasn’t obvious on the site. Here’s the link: http://support.amd.com/us/kbarticles/Pages/catalystlegacywin8.aspx.

OK. I like Angry Birds a lot but this is just plain weird. I guess there’s a video game for everything.

MyanCraft: I built pyramids in honor of our escaping

November 30th, 2010

Minecraft (sometimes referred to as the lego-like sandbox game) has occupied a bit of my free time lately. I’m not sure why but it’s so addictive to mine, explore, mine, build, repeat, etc….

Here’s some of my efforts put into a video (watch it high res and full screen!):
